Talk about mad.
« on: December 06, 2018, 06:50:44 PM »
So making the red oak board bow  I'm to the stage that I'm cutting out the fades and limbs. My jigsaw blade bent and cut way too deep on the bottom side (too was just fine) first bow. Huge screw up. Talk about pissed. I glued it up and have it clamped... Will that be enough or do I need to scrap it and start again? :(

Don’t take it too seriously.  It’s your first bow, screw ups happen.
We’ll need to see pics to give an opinion.
Life is too short to use marginal bow wood

I tried to post more pictures of it but it isn't working right for some reason. But I have that one glued up, hoping it works out. I just went to my garage to save my son's ears from all the language I was using. And while I was down there I cut out another,  with my table saw (can't cut too deep that way) so now I'm just going to glue it up and if my other one doesn't work out in back where I was on it anyway

Lower the picture size your cell phone takes.

Use a very low setting.

Man......  Don't let it get to you...   I know this guy Roy who has screwed up plenty of bows...

Ok...  Rule number one...  Can the jig saw unless you are going to allow for it's inaccuracy...  Two...   If you are gonna cut a straight line use something that can cut straight and has a fence...  Three...  Don't waste time on mistakes...  They are meant to be learning experiences and not to be dwelled upon and waste more valuable time working on a sub par product... Trash it and move on...  Four this is one of the most challenging crafts out there so be ready to be challenged...  Five...  There are no stupid questions...  This site is full of guys that will help you...  Use their wisdom to help you along your  path of frustration....  LOL...  Six...  Once you make a decent bow it is very rewarding....

Also. This one is going to be a bit thinner than it was originally supposed to be. But it'll be alright I'd imagine

Not sure what you are doing there and your pictures are huge.

You need to Z splice two pieces together end to end first.

Let that dry and then glue on a riser section.

Did you read through the so you wanna make a bow thread I gave you?

Two slats before a Z splice.

Z spliced together like this.

Z spliced into one bow lam.

No worries Man, it has happened to all of us , my self bow mentor told me after I screwed up 3-4 bows he said look Ritchie bow making is nothing more then problem solving 101 , that is the truest and most valuable statement I have ever heard use it daily  :archer2:

Yeah I used the so you wanna build a bow link you have me, roy. That's how I ended up with the bow I'm currently on. Which one has the z spliced bow? Unless I completely missed something lol. But that'll be my next project for sure!

LOL..

The Z splice is not in the link I gave you.

That was for you to use 2 of your short hickory boards to get one longer bow stave.

Then follow the link info to make the bow.

Cell phones take humongous size pictures, there are settings in your phone to lower the size pictures.

The link below explains the format for trad gang, pictures are in it.

Also you can edit your posts in here.

Above the window where your post appears, click modify and your post comes up in another window where you can edit it.

Then click save in lower right corner.

Thanks for the info! I'll pull out some wood and see if I have any good sized ones still. If not I have two Osage logs that I could do. Most of my hickory has been used up except a few hatchet pieces. But I'll chwck. After work this evening I'll read up on the camera thing lol
