Point of aim is 20 yards

Howdy, I think my point of aim is around 20 yards. I shoot 49# at 28 inch draw and my arrows are 30.25 inches if that makes any difference. I do think I may anchor high (right below eye level), if that's considered high. Just curious what everyone else's point of aim is. Thanks!

I think you mean your "point on distance" is about 20 yards?  That's very short for most, at least if you are not string walking.  GENERALLY, if you shoot split finger with a decent facial reference (anchor) position your point on will be somewhere around 60 yards.  IF shooting standard 3 under, MOST find their point on around 30 yards.

DEPENDING on how you hook the string with your fingers, a 20 yard point on would indicate a very high on the face position for your hand so I'd agree that it SOUNDS like you are anchoring too high.

We really need to see what you are doing to do more than answer in VERY general terms.  And again, string walking will move the arrow high on the face but the hand is still down around the area of your cheek.

If you are just doing a survey, you'll get a million answers of all kinds of distances, including "I have no clue what mine is."

Thanks Arne! Yes sir, I meant point on distance. Is it bad that I have that high of an anchor point if it feels comfortable? I will try to get my wife to take a picture of this in the next few days to verify. I shoot 3 under as well.

So now I'm confused, my draw is measured at 26" on a 55# at 28" bow with 28" arrows.  I shoot my 20 with what I think instinctive shooting is, I pick a spot, focus, draw and release.  I get a 5" group at 20 on target, however when I shoot 30 or 40 yards I think I'm really shooting gap.  I pick a spot and focus but I'm also aware of where my arrow tip is and how high from the X.  My anchor is split finger corner of mouth.  Should I be able to shoot the 30 without gapping?  Am I mixing definitions???
What's sad is I've been shooting off and on for about 20 years.

Porkchop, This is why I seldom get into aiming discussions.  Everyone's perception and description is different.  From your description, I'd think your "gap" at 30 yards would be somewhere around 24 to 30 inches BELOW the "X", as your point on distance would be somewhere around 60 yards.  You MAY have a 30 yard point on IF you switched to 3 under but again, it all depends on the individual.

It's just so hard to describe perceptions in words.

I've heard that my "gap" at 30 yards should be 20+" "Below" the X, but my arrow point is definitely above the X by about 20".  So am I still mixing terminology up?

Very hard to say!  It could be either terminology, Or what you think you are seeing, Or execution that leads to that result.  Seeing you shoot MAY shed light on it, working with you in person definitely would but that is usually not a viable option.  I will venture to say that from what you describe, there is no way your arrow point should appear to be above the target at 30 yards.  But for you it is what it is.

If your anchor point is solid and you can be consistent with it I'd say your next determination needs to be what are you needing to shoot?  I'm in the same boat with a high anchor but 20 yards is a long shot in hunting for me.  So normal shots even at trad shoots are under 30 and I can can normally Kentucky windage those well enough.

I have a 20-22yd point-on with most of my set ups. 27"ish draw length,29" bop arrows, 3 under with middle finger at corner of mouth and thumb knuckle (nearest wrist) tight under cheekbone. Point of aim at 10yds is 8"" under target and 30yd about 10" over. Maybe I'm unusual but it's worked for years and really simplifies hunting range shots.
