The best short recurve i've shot is without a doubt a Black River 56" curve.  One thing I love about Will's bows are the options for different length bows.  I've got a couple and can make anything from a 56" and a 62" curve as well as a 60 and 62" LB.  I have two risers and 2 sets of limbs.

Wish I had a few pics to post!

I’ve always been fond of my 1966 Herter’s Perfection that I bought from a friend back in 1970.....it’s 52”/55#@28”.

There are a lot of good short recurves out there, I wouldn't say there is "A best" but you do have a lot of choices...here's our Shrew Lil' Favorite II in 54" and of coarse it's MY favorite

This Super Shrew Lil Favorite bow is my favorite short recurve followed by a 1961 or 1962 Bear Kodiak Magnum.

The 52" Bear Kodiak Magnum has a very large following. The older one are easy to find and won't break the bank.

Yes, KMag can be found reasonably priced. I like the 61 and 62 version because the grip is not as full and I like smaller grips.

Ray, It's interesting that you say that as I have found the same difference between a 1970 and a 1975 greenie. The older (pre-73) KMags had some really nice wood in them.

My only experience is with a 45#48” Bear SuperMag and a Helms Deep 54” 50#.
I liked the Helms Deep better even tho it was 5 lbs heavier.

Ok, I have a 52" Helms Deep and I love it.
I have a 1973 K-Mag that I got in 1973 and I love it.
This question is kinda like " What's the best flavor of icecream "
I know several people that would answer this with " no such thing as a good short bow "
As for me, I really like the K-Mag but over the past few years, I'm preferring the low grip on the Helms Deep.
You really should try to get the opportunity to try several to find out what you like the best.

I used to shoot a Bear 4* inch Super Magnum.  But I draw 30 inches and after several years I noticed light gray lines in the back lamination going across the bow limbs just beyond the fade-outs.  It looked like the limbs were starting to break so I put it away.

I got a High Sierra from Fox Archery last spring, 64 # at 29.5", that's a neat 56" AMO.  Its a 3-piece take-down bow that fits inside my duffle-bag when I am traveling. I love it!  It draws nice and smooth all the way out to my anchor and spits the arrows out with authority!  Ron King was great to work with and the bow arrived right when he said it would.

If you can find one, Cascade Archery (when it was it business) offered a really nice short takedown. I was amazed at how smooth it was to draw.

Another fan of the 52" Tolke bow formerly known as the Kestrel.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

There is no best overall. One might be best for you, but you will have to figure that out. It's all part of the fun :archer2:

Love those short bows.. I also owned and shot a Roy Hall “Caddo” 58”. His “Apache “
is awesome also. He makes them in 56” . Lightning fast and beautifully
made. Wish I had not sold it..
On another note , some you guys posting seem to have long draw lengths so short bows and long dL don’t seem to make sense.. yeah I know they are being
built and successful.. but...
