INSERTS GLUE
« on: December 16, 2018, 11:58:56 AM »
I love stump-shooting and use aluminum arrows.  I melt glue-gun sticks on inserts when setting up arrows.  Don’t have problems until I shoot hard things (hardwoods, rocks, stuff), sometimes the insert backs out and occasionally have had shaft jump back off insert (leaving judo/insert proudly in stump).
Maybe I need to be more liberal with the glue.  Was wondering if anybody uses something different for making roving arrows a little more impact-proof.  Maybe there’s significant differences in hot glue brands?
Thanks in advance for your time!

Try The Quick Stick hot melt from Big Jim’s Bow Company. Best insert glue I have ever used!!!!!!!

Inserts stay put with this glue.

I use Big Jims hot melt on carbon, alum, and wood.  Good stuff.  I do take the time to prep-- rough up inserts w sandpaper and inside of carbons w file just enough to give some texture for glue to adhere to.  Then clean/ degrease.  Very seldom have one let go and i stump a good bit.

I run into the same problem from time to time. I carry a lighter in my pocket and a stump of hot melt glue, and just put it back on and dip it in the snow. Good to go.

I mostly use the Big Jim hot melt, but also use the blue cap gorilla glue on carbons sometimes.

I prefer Ferr-l-tite for hot melt as it makes a hard glue line. That said if you want a more permanent bond I use 24 hour cure time 2 part epoxy.

I sand paper the inside of shaft to give better adhesion no mater what type of glue.
