Made, or I guess I should say, I modified/hacked a thrift store toaster oven into a tempering oven. Going to experiment with some different steels for broadheads. I've always used 1084 in the past, but wanted to try some more exotic stuff. .
This was a really easy mod. I already had the 120V PID controller box (thanks again to Skeeter) so all I had to do was gut the oven controls, insert thermocouple, connect 2 sets of 2 wires and plug it in. I did fully insulate it with some left over rock wool and added a 15a fuse. Holds heat really well. Total cost; $3.25. Thats my favorite kind of project.

Flem... I'm not sure that work environment is flame retardant to OSHA standards. Then again I am the guy who runs a table saw, big ol' belt sander, box fan, radio and Lava Lamp on the same 30 amp circuit in my garage. Oh, and a deep freezer too.

I dry fired a bow today! Got the weight down to within a couple pounds of the final draw weight and decided to draw it to my anchor position (at 30.5”). Instincts must’ve kicked in because as soon as I got it to anchor I released it. Immediately, I went into panic mode but luckily everything held together just fine! Phew, could’ve been bad.

Not funny, but I had to laugh.

My daughter did that once with a compound as I was trying to adjust draw length for her. Of course I asked her “WTF are you doing?” The look on her face was priceless and all she could muster was “oops”. I couldn’t even be mad, just had to laugh.

Well doing something different .making some limbs for a well known recurve I wont name. Anyhow it has curves in the wedge tips. So had to make a couple of jigs to get that done.

Had a bit of fun today and made myself a table saw. With a bit of tweaking and a new blade I think it will be good enough to try cutting some lam blanks (gotta make a drum sander then....), but certainly good enough to square up rough sawn or round timber to take to a mate who has a good saw to make lams. For gits and shiggles I ran some doug fir through and made up some square strips to run through my dowel maker. Unfortunately the longest I can get out of the timber is ~28" and with a 28.5-29" draw length it looks like I'll be doing some footing to get them long enough. Good thing I've got a supply of Osage and other hardwood to make the footings with though! First real job will be to slice up some ply to make a cross cut sled.

Worked on my Osage self bow as well, but at the current rate it will take to 2050 to get finished. I vacillate between a scraper and a farriers rasp reducing the limb thickness at the moment but at least I don't end up with orange snot with the scraper

Nearly at a point a I can put a string on it so I can stand back and get a good look at it.

Okay so I got a masonry blade for the table saw today. Big Jim had mentioned using them for triming the excess off limbs when profiling. Works pretty darn good and quicker than changing bandsaw blades. Also for S and Gs I sliced G 10 with it seemed to do good there to.
