I glued up a nice bow blank for a wedding gift , grenadillo riser with osage accent curves, cherry veneers, and red elm cores. Also had to make a run to town to get my gal a birthday present .

Man I have too much walnut now !! I love the look of it but it’s not used a lot in glass bow builds I guess...

Love using it for lams and riser accents.

Maybe I should say as a general rule. There’s a few odd dudes who like it.

I have one of the original test bows that I killed a lot of critters with and it was all walnut lams and black glass which I promptly painted with flat black and gray.

I’ve been called worse

I think more guys would like it if they gave it a try. I like mixing it with other woods in the lam stack. I think walnut gives a softer feel with no loss in performance. Also love the contrast in color on the limb edges when mixed with light wood like maple.

Well walnut edge grain is a good core. It soaks a bit more glue to. And if I could get it to take more juice it be good in risers and deeper brown. Odd No

I took the bow off the form this morning, got it cleaned up and the profile laid out. I ended up about a half a string off center at the handle but I blame poor lighting, inferior tools, bad eye sight etc. I complained to my union rep about everything but the eye sight, in effort to upgrade the working conditions. She told me, and I quote, "Suck it up buttercup. Due to administrative cut backs there is no budget for upgrades".

Sigh!

I may get one anyway Kenny, I had to cut this shorter than planned so it may be a bit strong. But, it's a good opportunity to learn how to trap.
