Thanks Ritchie. It started as a stopgap adjustment, but it works really well, so I kept it.

Shredd, it's 4" sch 80 PVC with 6- 3/4" MDF discs inside, all mounted on 1" linear shaft arbor.
And with that I have reached the milestone!

I was thinking the same thing... You better check with a straight edge after sanding...  I have a 6 x 48 and sanded the inside 4" of the drum flat...  Or use epoxy vs wood glue for a better bond with spaces...

Yup come to think about it they are barrel shaped.

Just checked mine,,,GRRRRRR yuppers,

BUT I'm only using the bottom half of the barrel  :biglaugh:

and everything is getting glued up with the EA-40
soon as i let loose with my clamps ill see what it looks like,
but when i was fitting the pieces they were doing ok,  from your house to mine and a few beers
probably end up with some epoxy trim lines,,,oh well, maybe a real sander for X-mass,,,

got it all sanded down, need to sand and glue up my last piece before re-cutting to the template,
BUT
I should probably just go ahead and start over, as I do have some faint glue lines, if i look real real close,
I took close up  pic of the worst in the curves
like you all said there is an barrel in my sander, :biglaugh:
and this old farts just a farmer  :biglaugh:

you tell me
Keep it or toss it ?

cheers

As a first try, why did you start with such a complicated and strange looking riser design? I don’t mean to offend you, but like Shredd said keep it simple and you can always get fancy later.  :)

Get you a piece of Granadillo from kennyM, It's plenty hard enough, and purdy too.
square it up , cut your limb pad angles and drill and tap for your limb locking hardware and stop there with the riser.
Then get your limbs made.

NO offense taken,

went to a telescope gathering once, a long time ago
then went home and ground/polished,fugured a 28inch Diam, chunk of Black-glass into a mirror, and built a mount for it,
could have just bought one, but getting the final wave-length,thickness figure was a challenge I enjoyed
,
didn't buy a boat, but built my own with my kids,
,
never liked taking the easy road, sure no bumps but,
the hard road was always more interesting, and more lessons learned,
,
Yup, IT may look weird but ill learn, the hard way and hey it is different than most I've seen
and all the wood i had on hand from knife and gunstocks ive made

cheers

That's all cool.

But make a simple bow first.

Carry on oldfart!!

If you enjoy the challenge and are up to it, then go for it. You will have errors and lessons learned. Using fancy wood and fancy designs just makes the lessons come more often and more expensive.  :biglaugh:

John...  I guess what we are trying to tell you is that it is challenging enough to just make a 'Plain Jane' bow maybe with some simple accents but make it so that it is vertically and torsionally stable, does not stack, feels good in the hand, shoots accurate and fast enough that your arrow does not bounce off its target...  That is your challenge... Trust me it is a handful...  Five years and I feel like I just graduated from Greenhorn...
Later on down the line if you want to challenge yourself with looks, Look up Blacktail Bows...  If you want to challenge yourself with speed look up WTT3 contest in Pirates of Archery... If you want to challenge yourself with smooth shooting and accurate, Go ask Roy....
                                                                                     He might know somebody...

Good Luck buddy...  We are all rooting for you...

If you have a vision of something you really want to do, might as well go for it!
If the finished product isn't up to your expectations, I'm sure it will make a nice gift.
Personally I have no fear of failure, I always expect it as a possibility. How else can anyone innovate?
