Look at the rear of the feather or rear of the shaft, if the feather and catch lip make the letter L then it is a left wing. Hap

if you look at the feather with the quils facing away from you you can tell by with direction goes to the right is right wing to the left is left wing this helps when your grinding your own feathers incase you ever wanted to do so

A whole feather? I have to look at it and mentally put it back on the bird. Hold the part that was stuck in the skin, and make it so that the topside is up. See which edge has the shortest barbs. That is the leading edge. Pretend that this feather is  your  wing. If the leading edge points into the wind that is blowing in your face, do you hold it in your outstretched left hand, or your right? There is your answer.

I just like pretending to be a bird.  :)

Step one, get feathers. Step two got to trueflights webpage. They will walk you through it. I had the hardest time with this a few weeks ago....I couldnt bend my head around it at all. Good luck.

Hold the feather in your hand with the dull side up and the large half of the feather on top. If the vanes of the feather point left, it's a left wing. If they point right, it's a right wing feather.

Hope that helps.
