Eastern Red Cedar Staves, Virginia Juniper

Ed Scott always gave me fits for calling it Cedar, he'd look at me and take a deep breath and sigh Virginia Juniper!

Anyway, Im cutting and splitting some of the best stuff off of my place right now and they are ready to ship. Cedar needs to be worked while green. Rough out the bow, seal the ends and back and put on the form right away then leave it for a couple of weeks. Heat with heat and heat it a couple of more times during those two weeks. Then take it off the form and lay the sinew to it. The wood and sinew will cure at the same time and you will have a bow ready to shoot in about 90 days, depending on where you live. These will  make light in the hand fast snappy bows if you do your part.

In south Mississippi cedar and juniper differ in color and smell Juniper lacks the redness seen in your pic. Good info thanks for sharing

I followed the link to your website and now I am confused. It says your staves are air dried, but here you recommend working them green? Does the $90. include shipping?

No the 90.00 doesn't include shipping and yes it says my staves are air dried and these will be too if they lay around long enough. But cedar still works best green, I thought I would just offer some and let people know that I had then. Nothing to be confused about.

Eastern Juniper has been on my list to try out. Except I plan on slicing it up. Yours looks pretty clean, unlike most milled Juniper.
