Let’s See Your Northern Mist Longbows
« on: January 16, 2019, 07:56:30 PM »
I’m normally a hybrid longbow guy but lately I’ve had the itch to give one of Steve Turay’s bows a try.  I’m torn between the Baraga, the Whisper and the Sprague. If you’ve got one I’d love to see pics and hear about it.

1/4 Away. I am going to enjoy this post. Never shot a Northern Mist but called Steve and talked to him and I ended up ordering an American model longbow. Now the 5-6 month wait begins.

That's gonna be a tough choice.Especially with so many models to choose from.

I have had 4 N.M bows.

I really like the Ramer with its string follow limb and reverse handle.Very easy to shoot IMO and extremely quiet design.Mine has the locator grip.

Fred,
I have a friend who has 4 or had 4 and I think they are the "Classic" design. I can say they are built very well from what I have seen and Steve is a great guy . He has been up to the Baltimore Bowman classic and we always pay him a visit when there. Another friend I know just picked his up last spring from Steve up there. If classic is what you like I would go with that one but all his bows are nice from the ones I have seen.

Steelhead, You’re right about it being a tough choice. I exchanged a couple of emails with Steve yesterday. He said that the Baraga is closer to the type of bow I’m use to but those reverse handle bows really catch my eye. Steve said I could go with a 64” Whisper or Sprague although he would recommend a 66”. My only concern is hunting out of a tree stand with something that long since 62” is the longest I’ve hunted with and 60” being my go to length.

yes. walnut laminations that Steve is working with again. This was a stock bow I picked up from him. I like the Ramer, but the Shelton is my go to bow.

Ray, I love them all but I tend to lean to the Ramer, that being said I have been shooting my Superior of late. I am really looking forward to my Classic, and trying out a Sprauge next week.

Thanks for all the pics guys.

Anyone have any experience with Steve’s Huron? I believe it was a flatbow that he use to make.
