old bear bow (Kodiak)
« on: January 17, 2019, 11:16:17 AM »
I am needing information about an older bear bow:

It is a Kodiak, It is 60 inches in length with a draw weight of 59 pounds.  The marking of "CG05" is on the riser.  The riser also has a compass built into the handle.

The lower limb also has a patent sticker containing 2 US patent numbers and a 1953 date for a Canadian patent, no number for this one.

The riser contains shelfs so that it may be used either left or right handed.

Any info will be appreciated.

Double shelf Kodiaks we're made from 1953 to 1956.  Depending on condition and draw weight, they sell on the big auction site for $100-$200, with really nice examples for more.

1954 was the only year that the compass came as standard equipment on the Grayling Kodiak bow. It is  commonly referred to as the Compass Kodiak. I'm not sure if it was an option for the other years.

In 1954 the Kodiak came with either a maple or walnut handle. The walnut version seems to bring a little more than the maple.

If it came from the factory with a compass it's a 1954. It should have a Decal that reads Kodiak II. THAT'S also the only year the Kodiak II was made.
