Average takedown recurve and longbow limb pad angles?
« on: January 23, 2019, 05:59:42 PM »
Does this sound correct? Recurve from 18 to 20 degrees and longbow 10 to 12 degrees? Thanks for your time.

I’d say real close, my td longbow is 12 and the ilf recurve I built I think was 19 if I remember right .
Stay sharp, Kenny.

I use the same angle for both. 12%. The curve limb just needs to be designed to not have too much preload.

I have built 2 all wood 3 piece bows.  I made my pads 7dgs.  It seems to place less stress on the limbs.  You could go 12-15dgs with huge hooks on the tips, but would be a little tricky to tiller, but I'm just been safe. .  :o

Shallower curve equals less preload? My thought is a fairly straight limb until the curve on the recurve.

I also designed both my lb and recurves to use 12 degrees for both. That way I can utilize the same riser.

Do you use more of a longbow size riser or the larger recurve type?

Riser shape and size is more of a personal preference as long as the overall length and pad angel are of proper proportions for the individual design.

I prefer more of a longbow style myself.
