Well I survived the MRI.

Gotta wait to hear the results.

Wasn't bad at all.

Good to hear Roy.

Plan B is under way.  Gotta say, even though the deadline is breathing down my neck now, I'm glad the swap isn't over yet for me.  I got to implement the things I learned from Plan A.  Even have one of those fancy I-Beams.  Figured I needed one less thing to worry about with this build.  It's ready for glue up.

Yes sir Flem, ipe and maple.

I had an upper body MRI last year.  My head had about 1/4" of clearance and I had to stay there not moving for 5 minutes at a time.  If you swallow it can mess up the results.  It was miserable.

Question on Ipe, do you no glass guy's worry about grain violations on the belly side?

If it's going to be backed you can get away with some grain violations on the belly.  That being said, I try and only use wood that has pretty straight grain to begin with.
That small spot on my bow swap plan A bow was right on a run out.  Can't help but think it wouldn't be there had the grain been perfectly straight.
To answer your question, I find ipe can handle more violations that other wood choices.

Grain violations on the belly aren't anywhere near as critical as on the back but like above, the better the grain, the better the bow.

Well just got the MRI results.

Not good, L5 S1 is all screwed up and a few other discs are iffy.

See back specialist May 15th, most likely surgery.

Shoot me now, been laid up for 2 months already and looks like it's gonna be end of June till I'm back on my feet.

I can sympathize. L4 and L5 for me. Laid up for 3 months a few years ago and 2 month in 1990 when it first manifested itself. No surgery here but lots of yoga style exercises. Best of luck to you, Roy.

They wanted to cut on me to. My siatic and some arthritis pinching a nerve. I decided to try a chiropractor first. She has gotten a lot of pressure of the nerves.  :dunno:

Thanks guys.

I have to wait and see what the specialist says when he reads the mri.

Keeping fingers crossed.

If the specialist is a surgeon you can guess what he'll say. That would be a very last choice for me but to each his own.
Best of luck, Roy.

OUCH. I would try a chiropractor, I have faith in them and they have helped me.

Well according to the preliminary report, the disk is bulging out and pressing on the spinal cord.

I won't know for sure how bad things are until the specialist reads the mri.

Then I can choose how to handle it after talking with him.

He has operated on my wife's back and she is doing great.
