Scale it out, you can still take some weight off it.

I was having so much fun with this ELB, I thought I would make it my swap bow. Had it all tillered, made weight, even got some nice Horn for the nocks, which you can see back right of pic. Then BOOM, popped the Cherry! (wood) Oh well, back to my original plan B.

It is nice Horn. I got it from a gal who sells on eBay. She was mentioned on another Archery site.
Got enough to make about 10 bows! I will attempt more tri-lam ELB's, but not with Cherry as the belly wood! Maybe not with Purpleheart either, it fractured along with the Cherry. The Maple back is fine and it actually had the most suspect grain.

OUCH, that is too bad. There is a wood that is not much mentioned and that is your American White Oak. Since we can have it over here it should be easy for you to obtain. It works fine as a belly wood in a straight limb design, I have made tri-lams with it and some guys have made 100 pound war bows with a thin backing of bamboo or others. No round bellies though.

Just a quick update...
Not totally happy yet with the antler limb tips but they are coming along. The walnut accent in the mulberry riser looks pretty good though. Gotta do something with that pale hickory backing for sure though... unless my recipient wants snow camo.

That Mulberry is really nice looking, never seen it before. Kind of looks like a less porous Mahogany.
Personally I think the Hickory looks good, especially contrasted against the Mulberry.
Bue, you scored!

Ok guys. I shot this bow tonight after knocking a couple lbs off. Still heavy but it’s a laser. Shooting at Mr. X’s draw with mismatched arrows and it is making me look good. Gotta knock some weight off the tips to get the shock down a bit. Still no scale but I’m afraid I’d lose performance trying to get there. But she’s still together after 40-45 shots.
So to the many potential victims, do I push the envelope or see where it’s at after a good sanding?

I just finished glueing up my plan B bow. Fingers crossed 🤞. The glue up looks good.

A few pounds over or under doesn’t matter to me.

If the goal weight was 50#, ten over might be OK. If the goal was 55-60#... 65-70# might be a little tough.
Also depends on the draw length as well I suppose.
All that said... I'd be happy with most anything.
