Think I'd cut that apart and try again, Ben?

It's not a big deal.  I used a little heat and broke the joint, then reground the angle on the correct end and glued it back together.  It's drying right now.

I'm just amazed at my own stupidity sometimes.... :)

I do most of my bow work late at night after the wife and baby go to bed.  I'll blame it on being tired...

That riser looks good. I got mine down to 2.5 over so good to go.

I’m happy with any kind of bow, but, having said that, I wouldn’t mind trying a Kenny M. Style bow.

Well I’d be happy with any design as well but would prefer something with bamboo. Seeing some of the work done so far I feel bad that I’m not further along.  Had a strong start but the weather can’t cooperate long enough for me to get out in the shop.

Technical question for the brain trust. I am planning on “Z” splicing my lams but one of the guys I’ve been talking to in the local building group suggested scarf joints. I’m going with a 12” riser/handle on a trilam. What’s the consensus around here?

Cody

It depends for me Cody.  Z’s are stronger but are more noticeable.  If I have a thick riser and I’m not worried about strength I do a scarf joint.
Go with the z if you are putting a handle wrap on it.

Well my handle block will be roughly 1 1/4”- 1 3/8” deep with a solid bamboo back. I may just have to build two bows- one each way. Hoping to not have to use the handle wrap if I can, got something neat for the handle and be a shame to cover it up.

The Z splice is no more visible than a scarf joint and 10 times stronger than a scarf joint.

Z splice below.

Anyone using Z splice for lams on glass bows ? Having issues with gorilla CA glue. Gonna try epoxy next unless there's a better way

Gonna have to disagree with ya Roy, you know I hate doing that  :)

I find the z splice much more noticeable.  Most of the time you have to look real hard to find the scarf joint.  We agree on the strength part though....

Who asked you, Ben?

LOL

I always cover my handle area so it's no biggie for me.
