I had to lay off this build for a couple of weeks because my hands and fingers were too painfull to do any work. Unfortunately I was diagnosed with Arthritis not long ago(crap) I have now started with medication and feel a little better, so I shall get it done.
I did speedtesting today and you can see my square head shooting machine. I use two chronographs set up in a tandem configuration, the first one 3 feet downrange, in order to make sure I measure straight arrow flight. If the speed varies with more than a feet between the two it means the arrow did not go through in a straight line and the measured speed can be quite wrong. This is according to Blacky Schwarz and the late Norbert Mullaney.
I am bringing up an old thread where Blacky explains this.

I tested first like Blacky does with 9 grain per pound bow weight, arrow drawn to 28 inches from back of handle. I will not say how many pounds now because you could narrow it down, who mister X is  ;)
I tested with a 18 strand flemish twist fast flight string.
Blacky used 16 strands, so if I had done the same I might have cranked out another feet or two. The speed was 197 feet.

Hey Bue, I'd love to see pic of how the bow is held in place. And what is your target/backstop made of?

If you look at Blacky’s bow reports you can see he tested in the way I did a
Black Widow PAX tulipwood at 194 feet.
Great Plains Swift at 193 feet.
Hunter’s Niche Predator Hunter Classic at 198 feet.
So I guess mine is doing allright.

I then tested the same way with 10 grains per pound bow weight.
The speed was then 185 feet.
With the same arrow drawn to 29 and 30 inches the speed was
193 and 203 feet.

The bow is held in place with an bicycle inner tyre, simple, but works okay.

This is the backstop. A bit expensive, but lasts many years. Natural straw.

Let's see, if I recall the numbers this should be a set up for disappointment for about 15 fellas come Saturday and elation for one lucky guy.

I know I'll be watching closely.

Got the riser and tip overlays glued on today. Trying a new/old method. Had a bunch of these big rubber bands floating around, so decided to put them to work. The bow may not have pink in it, but I’m using pink for the build.  ;)
