Question for string makers

I have a spool of black D97 that bleeds really bad when trying to twist a string. If i use yellow or light color with black it don't look clean. What can I do make it not bleed onto lighter colors?

Are you doing flemish twist or endless loop

Hit it hard with the wax first maybe? Might seal it some.

Well... when you wax and burnish the string it will probably smear it.

I usually try to burnish my bundles after my end loops are done to strip the excess wax and dye.

Probably not much you can do about it except burnish/wipe the bundles a lot before you make the string. Are you sure it's D-97? I've been using black D-97 for years and have never had a problem with black or any other color bleeding.

Wipe the bundle down with alcohol to remove the excess die.

I've only had bleeding problems with B-50 , I have made several with white and black, also red with D-97 with no bleed over at all.
And I have never wiped the bundles before twisting up.

I do black and tan D97 with no bleeding. I just made one today. I do wax each bundle heavily before twisting.

Wipe it down with a clean, damp cloth after you lay it out but before waxing and twisting.
