Ok, for what it's worth : Micarta is a trade name.. Like cresent wrench.. all crescent wrenches are adjustable, but not all adjustable wrenches are Crescent.
Micarta makes phenolic sheets.. G10 is a phenolic that is made of epoxy resin and fiberglass matt. What we generally call Micarta or phenolic is a polyester resin and typically has some sort of fabric matt.. such as paper, linen, and canvas.
The approximate weight of polyester phenolic is 85 lbs per cubic foot. The approximate weight of G10 is around 110 lbs per cubic foot. Gabon ebony, ironwood and Macassar ebony are in the low to mid 70's for lbs per square foot.
G10 is considerably stiffer (less flex) than polyester phenolic yet it is much easier to file. This makes it ideal for riser I-beams.
I personally use so much that I wouldn't consider making it. Way too much work and not nearly as consistent.
I have made a push at the office to get the g10 on line. That too is a lot of work. We will offer it 36"s long or 48"s long by any width in 1" increments out to full width.
And yes, typical to the way we operate, it will be very competitive in price.
Thanks, BigJim
