Charlie, what would be the minimum draw weight you'd suggest for using these heads?

Depends on the bow, but over 45# and closer to 50# as far as I'm concerned.

Light bows are why they build smaller broadheads 😀.

Ive shot Snuffers since the early '80's....  going way back to the greenish colored ones.  I shoot 145 and 160 gr. Snuffers and I tell everyone that over that period of time I have put a couple of dozen deer in the truck that if I had shot them with a lesser head, probably wouldn't have recovered them. I have killed several hundred deer, a pile of turkeys and bear as well as a lot of hogs with 160 grain snuffers.  A 160 grain head is great insurance for that marginal hit.

I have shot them off of bows as low as 50 pounds and as high as 80 (back when I was young and foolish).  These days I use 55-65 pound bows and have no problems with penetration.

I like this thread! Only Snuffer killed deer I had was like Terry’s. Think it was about 56# on a lodge pole shaft and 125g glue on. Blew through an adult doe like butter and she just walked off and fell over. I have some 145’s and 160’s but got into the wensel woodsmans when they came out and never used them. I need to!

I'm shooting 160's with a total arrow weight from 540 to 650gr out of 46 to 53# depending on the bow but bows made and set up for the faster side I guess,, I'm confident in my set ups by spending lots of time practicing with these heads and bare shafting the arrows

Modad... the thought of using the 160 gr. Snuffer (the only real Snuffer as far as I'm concerned) out of a 40# bow for big game makes me nervous.

You'll probably get a lot of opinions to the contrary but thinking about it still makes me twitch.

I killed several black bears, caribou, and deer with 160 grain snuffers shot out of bows from 68# to 86# (I didn't always get pass throughs depending on the angle and bone, etc.) but...

With a 71# long bow at 29 1/2" draw length I shot a medium size bull moose at very close range perfectly broadside through the very top of the heart and did not get a pass through. I can't remember if I hit a rib or not upon entry but most likely I did.

He didn't go far though, that's for sure!

I found some 160 glue on that im going to pick up for turkeys.

Not sure at 42# I've got enough juice for whitetails though, heads are huge!

The snuffers are great heads, I shot a lot of critters with them but I was shooting 65 and 70 pound bows and the damage they caused was remarkable. I wish I had some still, a great broadhead made by a great man, and family.

I love Snuffers, 145s and 160s.  My all time favorite setup was a 60# @ 28 Silvertip recurve that I drew to 29 with 2219s and 160 Snuffers.  That thing really was fun.  I had some epic kills with that setup.

I can't pull 60# anymore due to some should issues, but I have a 54# Silvertip that loves 2115s and 145 Snuffers.  I haven't killed anything with this one yet, but I will.

My boys and I shot the 125 grain a lot we killed a bunch of bears, whitetails, mule deer and a couple of caribou and my youngest boy shot the 160 on deer . I dont remember any pass throughs but lots of complete penetration we used 50 to 57 lb. bows .
  A friend gave me 2 dozen 160 grain snuffers a couple of years ago but I havent tried them yet they are not completed they need to have the final grind done, I grind em on my belt sander .When the WW came out I switched to it and I liked it better .

I was down in Georgia last week and shot a very large boar with a 60 pound bow, 620 grain fir arrow and 160 grain Snuffer.  When I was processing him I discovered he had a foreign object lodged in his off side shoulder...

Best heads I've ever used, though I haven't used many cause Snuffers have always done what I asked of em from mid 50 to 70 lb bows. Really wish someone would start making em again - every once in awhile I hear a rumor... I'm down to a precious few remaining and I'm always a day late to the party when I hear of someone selling em. Wonder whatever happened to the equipment, that'd be a fun venture!

See them every once in a while on the auction site. Price is usually astronomical though. They are wicked. Best part is they have to be the easiest head to sharpen ever PERIOD.

I tend to agree with Charlie and Terry on 160 Snuffers with 40 lb.  It would definitely be pushing your luck a bit.  It's one of those things where I think you would be ok, but I would hate to find out I was wrong.  Pretty sure you would be ok with turkeys, but I wouldn't try it with deer.  Try the Grizzly Instinct.

Grizzly Instinct, VPA, Woodsman 150 grain get you the weight with a slightly more slender head.
