Mini rant, brace yourself.
« on: March 12, 2019, 06:00:10 PM »
Acetone and similar items are wonderful, but whomever designed, and any person thereafter that insists on using those 1 gallon cans should be forced to fill their whiskey glass from that very type of can and the can is required to be full for every pour.

When those things are full I have found no way to pour from them without it spilling everywhere.

Ya gotta hold the can horizontally with the spout up on top.

Amen to that. Roy's got it right, but until you get some out of the full can, it's a splash fest.
Pour some out into a clean 5gal bucket first. Or ditch the can and get some good clean non toxic solvent.

Seriously though, this is a good solvent and if things start to go south, you can fortify your resolve with a belt :bigsmyl:

I dont use any toxic stuff anymore,  for clear coat I use polyurethane water based,  some paint thinner or denatured alcohol.  Thats about it.  Any other spray bombs I use outside on a warm day.

I agree!! I had started trying to make a pour spout to fit my can but my A.D.D kicked in and I got side tracked and.........

Maybe take your lid and solder a piece of copper pipe in it for a spout.

Roy’s right :banghead:

Pour with the opening at the top. This is also true for plastic oil jugs ;)

Lonnie, if you have a auto body supply store close to you they will have plastic spouts that screw on gallon cans.

Can't remember where I seen them, but it was a little metal spout maybe an inch long with a spring loaded plunger button that opened the spout to pour. It was soldered or gas welded onto the 1 inch metal cap. Worked very well.

Guess you could call it child proof, Lonnie.

Get a turkey baster to transfer smaller amounts to smaller containers for immediate use.

What I do is buy 1 gallon cans of what I want from home depot, then transfer some into a quart metal can with a funnel.

That eliminates the large gallon can handling all the time.

That's funny, I was doing just that and ended up wearing or swimming in about a half a cup or more. :goldtooth:

I buy solvents(alcohol, acetone, paint thinner) is quart sizes, not that they are any easier to open or pour but I don't like having that much of the solvents around. The quarts of each that I have are at least half full and it's been years since I bought any.
