Gary, I was like you in my 40's and maybe 50's.
In 2017, I had two bull Caribou go past me. Knowing they were being driven two miles back, I used my White tail knowledge to set up. After a few minutes, I realized, no, they're not whitetail - they will go down the center of the meadow rather than the edge. But, too late, there were the two. Busted.
So, I moved. And, later came the huge bull. And, like large whitetail, he came obliquely to the meadow, not down the center. But like Quebec Caribou, he headed to the top of the rise. Knowledge gained just a tad too late.
Yet, I don't have any regrets. None. Don't ask why. I can't explain.
So, it's all in the eye of the beholder in the end. We all like success. But, for me, anymore, success with a rifle is not really success.
And, Quebec Caribou hunting is ended, perhaps for my lifetime.
