Split Limb Recurve??????
« on: February 11, 2007, 09:44:00 PM »
Strung the bow to shoot for probably the last time as it "was" for sale.
Drew back and I heard POP!!!! Scared the crap out of me..After checking to insure my body parts were intect, I saw the arrow on the floor. Thought a nock blew.....nope, the limb split on two sides about 6" to 8" down the limb.
Anyone ever had this happen to them?
Anyone have any thoughts on the cause?
Anyone have any 50# to 60# Hatfield limbs for sale?
Guess I'll have to wask winshiled or sell bottles of frozen H2O under the GW Bridge to buy son a new recurve.

I had the same thing happen to a Darton recurve, although the split was about 1 1/2". The only thing I know that could have caused it was that I had accidently dry fired. I didnt notice anything wrong for about 50 shots, then my string broke. Thats when i found the limb split. I had a man that does some bow building to try and fix it for me and he did a good job the bow shoots great now.

I had a bow do the exact same thing while shooting. Scared crap out of me too. Mine was a brand new bow that had been shot less than 100 times. Never did figure out what caused it. I suspect the guy who made it did not reinforce the tips properly or he put wrong type string on it. Never found the guy again to try and get my money back. Bought it at a show.

I had that happen to me with the bow I made in high school in 1972.  The bow lasted till 2001.  The pop was so loud that a neighbor came to see what had happen.

Jeff,
I'm glad it did not sell either.  Refunding the money is the easy part, as long as noone got hurt.

The same thing hapend to me the bow was new, less then 50 shots.  Local store where i bought it gave me a fell refund. I know the feeling It sucks.  Hope every thing works out.
