New decoy...
« on: April 19, 2019, 12:23:26 AM »
Bought a new turkey decoy for run around hunting. Dang thing ain’t cheap but I have never seen a Brinks truck following a funeral processions. I got a good bird on opening weekend but since then I haven’t had much luck so I needed a change. The birds were not coming to my calls so I needed to go to them and look for a fight. Also I got out my Galaxy BlackRidge longbow and wood arrows to change it up a little. I made a trip on my bike out to my buddy Paul’s place to chase some birds , had a nice solo hunt but no luck. Nothing better then a good friend letting you hunt their property and enjoy a beautiful area of Texas...

The property is a Bowhunters dream and the tiny house in the woods is pretty cool place to get away from the world. Also has a lake full of fish on it and also a river pretty much has it all ( yea I’m pretty much spoiled ). So as most of you know I like to hunt so let’s get to it. Armed with my longbow and new decoy for this trip I was ready for action. The birds were talking so I would move around and try to get in front of them and pop the decoy up and see what happened. The decoy is like a turkey umbrella deal , pretty big so I figure I would hide behind it. And as it played out I got out in front of 2 toms popped it out then made a few soft hen calls. Soon as they saw it here they came the smaller of the two was in the lead  ( not good for him cause I’m not picky ). I was doing my best behind the decoy to look like a bush as he strutted his stuff. I made full draw behind the decoy and when he was facing straight away I leaned out slowly and shot him squarely in the back. He made a flapping 30yd dash and piled up just downhill from where I sat.....

Congrats on the fine Turkey. Nice setup and arrows, and obviously a great place to hunt or relax.
