Now to add hardware
« on: April 20, 2019, 03:35:01 PM »
Well I got the riser and limbs done now to put in the hardware. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for everyone's help.

Only advise I can give is to cover all those pretty finished surfaces with blue tape. Hate to see that beautiful finish marred.

Would be much easier for yourself if you made the drilling and installment of hardware before shaping the limbs and riser. I have never seen it done your way.
Good luck.

What Bue said, in this case, I would bolt the limbs to the riser with no pin, mark center on riser and where the nocks will be,  run a string on it to get all lined up as good as you possibly can, then drill the pin holes right thru the limbs and into riser . This way you will be as aligned as possible cause you got no wiggle room shaping limbs first.

Then put an overlay from limb butt up past pin hole on outside of limb.

That would be my thought, maybe somebody will have a better way!

Beautiful bow BTW!!
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Limb alignment can be a pita, but stay right with her. I learn something on every bow , some I have learned before and still make mistakes....

Yes...

" in this case, I would bolt the limbs to the riser with no pin, mark center on riser and where the nocks will be,  run a string on it to get all lined up as good as you possibly can, then drill the pin holes right thru the limbs and into riser . This way you will be as aligned as possible cause you got no wiggle room shaping limbs first. "

Bolt the limbs on without pins, run a light string from tip to tip and check center at riser. Then drill thru limbs into riser to get limb alignment as close as you can.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Did you do any tillering of the limbs before finishing them? Have you determined which is the upper and which is the lower limb?  You might want to determine which is the stiffer limb before bolting them on otherwise you may not be able to reverse their position after the hardware is installed.
If I'd known that I would live this long I'd have taken better care of myself.

I fabbed up a set of limb pockets out a pair of Aluminium L channels in a similar situation. Painted black they don't stand out, but it was a dark riser/limbs. If I did again I'd probably make up a mold and do it in carbon/glass instead.

It did give a bit of wriggle room to line everything up nicely with a string line from nock - nock over the riser. If you make up a jig for drilling the limb bolt, it should give you the option of swapping them over for tillering or alignment if needed.

No tillering done just cut the tips. Got in a hurry to see how they turned out. I have some leftover black glass and thin strips of wood and some clear glass. You guys think that would be too much over the butt ends?

last shot looks like alignment is good. Re drilling the bolt holes etc., I do it the way Kenny said as a matter of choice.

Hey guys I finally got the limbs on and the string is tracking down the middle but I have a little twist in the limbs. My question is do I take some off the high side or low side? Thanks.

It will pull to the weak side. first try deepening the the weak side string groove some to see if that helps. then if it is still off sand the strong side. be sure your string is not binding in that groove before anything. go ahead and shoot it a few times and see where the string settles in. I even move the string on end in question over some the other way and shoot it to see if it comes back and shows the same twist.
