Kenmym takedown
« on: May 02, 2019, 12:37:19 AM »
Started my first takedown. Not going to get overly fancy on this one being my first and all. Locust with jatoba inlay. Got some green glass here so I'll be using it. Gotta get the limb form built.

Looking forward to seeing this build.  Kind of partial to green myself.

LOL...not sure what happened but, I'm .200" under 1.5". Doesn't bother me any, I'm sure it will be fine. Just going to add a few thou to the limb stack to get my weight.

Most times the longbow will make weight at 1.375 wide.

I take all my bows down to about 1.25" or a more. I don't care for a fat feeling grip and I think the slim look is a lot sexier.

I'm leaning more that way too.

I love mine, Purple Heart with a Maple I beam, brown glass and bamboo lams! It's a sweet shooter!

The crack, I'm pretty sure the crack isn't going to grow any. Its filled with ca. Even if it does, I really don't care. This bow is being built as a kind of "trial run" for me. Just a tester to get my feet wet for the real deal.
I have built the limb form, and started grinding lams...maple. the threaded inserts are in. I plan on drilling threw the limbs into the riser for the locating pins once I have it lined up. Seems the best way to do it not having a drilling jig.
I will post as I go.

So I glued up a limb. When I pulled it from the form I found that it has a radius on the belly where it should sit flat against the limb pads??? The back is nice and flat it the same area. Not sure how this can even happen.
Any thoughts would be great.
