Schafer one piece recurve
« on: May 14, 2019, 08:36:40 PM »
So I just traded a longbow that I don't shoot too much for a one piece Schafer. I have always wanted to try one and here is my chance!

You don't hear a lot about the one piece Schafer's so lets here about them from those that have experience, and as always the more photos the better!

The gent I am making the trade with is currently at Stickflingers so won't see the bow for a week or so, but and certainly looking forward to it. It is 58" 57@28 with a rosewood dymondwood riser and ash (I think) veneers.

So lets hear about them, and or see them!

I have a 60 inch one piece and a number of takedowns.  I actually think the one piece may be a bit better performing bow.  Mine is 54# @ 28 and I draw a tad over 29.  It really likes 1918s with 175 grain heads and Easton 6mm 470s with 50 grain inserts and 200 grain heads.

Awesome one piece bow.  I'm a fan of solid bows.  I can only dream of owning one of those!

I have owned two Schafer one piece bows, one made by Dave and the other by Paul.  Both were great bows.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Whats not too love, Todd.  I spent a lot of time designing that one.  Do you even know what all the woods and horn is?

Hi Keith,

Let me see if I Remember/guess right.

Riser is macassar ebony, flare is black and white ebony. Limbs are karlelum (sp?) birch on the belly, and burled walnut on the back.  I believe the horn is eland horn.

Am I close?

For others benefit, I got my takedown first after seeing pictures of Keith’s.  Turns out the first set of limbs missed Keith’s target weight and were available and perfect for me.  I had Dave make me a 15” riser so I got a 60” bow.  I think Keith’s was shorter.  I had Marv Clyncke do the scrimshaw bear for me and Dave was gracious to place it in my riser.  When I had an opportunity to get the matching one piece used, I jumped on it.  The perfect match set!

I think its Kudu.  I used Eland on my Rocket u copied.  I didnt know he missed weight or I probably would have bought them too.  I know I sent Dave a bunch of veneers and he missed weight on Dannys bow too.  So several people got beautiful limbs from me in a roundabout way.

I received the used one earlier this week and absolutely love the way it shoots. It is very pointable, and the grip fits just right.

I have never been a short length bow kinda guy, so at 58” this is going to be my new “short bow” in my stable.

I spoke with Beth Thursday and am going to send it back to them next week to be checkered and plug the quickie quiver mount as I will never use it and just don’t like the looks of it.

It’s not that fancy but boy does it shoot!

I totally agree Dave. I have owned a few of the Windauer 1 piece Tips and they all seemed harder hitting than my t/d.

The wife and I are both big Schafer fans.
While I run a take down, the Mrs swears by her one piece.
55# @28, and it is a lovely little bow. It fits her like a glove.

Functional as well.
