45/50 w/125's and want to go to 190gr
« on: May 26, 2019, 09:13:39 AM »
wood arrow pro's I need the formula??

I have a 48# Alaska Peninsula bow which has the medium radical R/D limbs that I draw 27", it shoots a 45/50 28" BOP arrow with a 125 point perfect..

I want to shoot the brown meatheads next season so 190gr minimum..    my guess is I need to go up to 55/60 spine arrows to make this work,, whats you're opinion..

I take it that your arrows are exactly 27 inches long with your 125 grain set up. What I would do with your 190 grain heads with 55/60 spine arrow, would be cut one them long, maybe 28 3/4 inches. Cut them down as you need them because once you cut them, you can't go back. See what kind of arrow flight you're getting and go from there. Another way would be getting a test kit. Best of luck! JMG
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me some venison;

Indicated spine values are for finished arrows 28" long with a 125gr head. For each inch under or over 28" add or subtract 5# of spine. For heads lighter or heavier than 125gr add or subtract 5# of spine for each 25grs under or over 125gr.
Which arrow you choose will depend on the bow you are shooting and how you shoot it so take the arrows that shoot best for you and your bow then do the math. This will get you in the ball part at least.

I have been shooting a 45# recurve drawing to 28.5" and have been using a GT 35/55 cut to 29.25"with excellent results with points 160-200 grains. YMMV

I agree with the others, you will need to test. Arrows are like shoes: you go to the shop, select the ones that *should* fit, and then... you try them!

By the way, I did exactly the same thing a couple of years ago, switching from 125 to 190 grains. I tested the bare shafts and, to my surprise, I ended up selecting the same ones I had been using with the 125 grains point. If the shaft is perfect for 125gr, you might end up in the same situation as I did. You need to verify that though  :thumbsup:
