UUKHA
« on: May 28, 2019, 11:46:30 AM »
So I am a big ILF and Uukha fan. I have mainly been shooting the EVO2 EX1 limbs for the last 2 years. I love them. In my opinion, the best ILF limbs out there for the money.

This year, I want to get even more performance! I have my second moose hunt coming up in Oct and I want the most performance I can get and shoot my heavy set ups.

Is it worth me getting the XX to VX+ limbs? I have shot Super Curve limbs in the past (Morrison, Border...) and I am not really a fan of the “let off”. And the harshness. I know the XX limbs are the same limb profile as the EX1 EVO2.
I like the EX1 EVO2 Uukha limbs because of the Extream smoothness out to my 29” draw.

Any input would be greatly welcomed.  I would even try another limb, but Uukha has been such a performer for me.

What's harsh about a border limb?
Thick fog slowly lifts
Jagged peaks and hairy beast

I also have the EX1 EVO2 Uukha limbs and have shot a couple of the upper end Uukha's with both the regular Curve (HX10 Evo2) and the VX-1000 Xcurve . I also corresponded with a couple of guys that own and shoot the Vx+ for Barebow field and 3D.

From what I could tell by shooting the HX10 and in from what others have stated the upper end regular curve models don't have much if anything to gain as far as speed, or significant gains in smoothness compared to the EX1 EVO2. Sure they have more carbon content but I'm not sure it make a significant difference,

Now the Xcurve is a different story. I could tell a big difference between the Vx1000 and the EX1 EVO2 especially in speed. The Vx is 9-10 fps faster at the same weight, is smoother to draw but to me it feels like it loads up much earlier in the draw cycle and is pretty unforgiving of form.

As much as I'd like to have an upper end Uukha Xcurve I can't justify paying 2.5x the price of the EX1 EVO2 for 9-10 fps for hunting use. I certainly wouldn't spend my money on the regular curve upper end models.

If I needed more than the 40 lbs. than the  EX1 EVO2 max out at I'd look at the Nature series. Weren't you going to become a dealer for Uukha's?

Jason, I have been wondering the same thing. I have 3 sets of the Uukha EX1 EVO2 limbs. They have become my favorite ILF limb. I noticed the Tradlab did a performance test on the Ex1 EVO2 and also the VX. The VX limb was 8.3 fps faster. I did notice in their draw force curve that the VX tend to load early. I was only debating because I am now shooting lighter weight bows. For 8 fps difference it may be hard to justify. Would love to hear comments from people who have shot them both.

What I thought. To go from the EVO to the more expensive carbon content does not seam worth it. But shooting a heavy 615g arrow out of a 48# bow, I would take 8-10fps! That would increase momentum by a fair amount...

Yes, I wanted to become a dealer. I still might. It will take a few $. At the moment, I decided to put the few extra $ into R&D on a new head... :saywhat:

I might pull the trigger on a pair of VX+ limbs in a long...I would love to get my momentum into the 50slug range and still shoot 160-165fps.

I own both the Uuhka VX1000 Xcurve limbs and the VX+Hm Xcurve limbs. I've had a boat load of custom bows and limbs including a Border Black Douglas Hex6.5. I can't imagine a smoother drawing limb than the Uuhka Xcurves, love them. My VX+Hm limbs are slightly faster than my VX1000 limbs. So if you feel the VX1000 limbs are 8 feet per second faster than your current limb you can add about another 3 feet per second for the VX+Hm limb. Shot completely through an elk last year with the VX+HM limbs at 53lbs., never did find the arrow. There was a pond behind the elk and I assume the arrow flew out into the pond. By the way I was shooting a Magnus II four blade head with an arrow weight of 535 grains just so you know the setup. The VX+Hm limb definitely has some punch to it.

Ya...I think I will get the XCurve limbs in a couple pounds heavier weight.

Should make a sweet moose bow!

have you guys figured out a good way to estimate poundage on shorter risers with these uukha limbs? for example, could I achieve upper 50's @31" with my 15" wooden morrison riser?

I know on my 19” risers the listed poundage goes up approx 6 pounds at my 29” draw.

There is a calculator on the Uukha website for the limbs/length/riser.  Accurate for me.

I have found their calculator to be very accurate. Their site recently made it easier to find the calculator. Just go to the Uukha home page, scroll down to the bottom under FAQ and their calculator is there.

Jason, I’ve never had a chance to shoot uukha limbs. I’ve heard they are quiet but are they as quiet as a limb with a wood core? I primarily hunt whitetails and quiet definitely matters.  Also I’ve heard there are some durability issues with the finish. Any truth to that?

Jon, you can go to www.thetradlab.com and see a lot of different limbs tested. They use sound equipment to test a lot of different limbs for how quiet they are. That way it is not subjective. You can see how the VX and the EX1 EVO2 compare to other limbs both in their decimal rating and speed. I personally think they are very quiet. Testing showed they are a quiet limb. I do think what you have read about the durability on the finish on the Uukha limbs is real. I think that is one area they could improve. I don't think the finish is really bad or anything like that, I just think it could be a little more durable.

I'd stay away from uukha for the moment, one guy at my club is having serious problems with them. He is now on his fourth warranty return with VX limbs (dont hold me to the model). All the limbs have had serious problems with either the carbon fiber cracking or horrendous tillering issues limbs being same serial number but significantly different poundages straight out the box. At the moment he is canceling the buy with them. Maybe wait a while until ordering to see if they can fix their quality control
You can only miss in two directions, vertically or horizontaly

I just strung up the new XCurve VX+....WOW. Very fast, stable, awesome draw force, and yes, quiet. More quiet than my EVO2 EX1 limbs. Very laterally stable. Zipping an 13 gpp arrow 165fps.

They have have finish issues. Nothing to worry about. I always camo mine anyway and top coat them.

Uukha is the real deal.

I see the heaviest they make is 60#, is that right? A friend had trouble similar to what Miikka described with a different bowyer making carbon limbs. They don't make heavy limbs either. Infact they immediately tried to talk him down in draw weight when he ordered 56# then it took them 4 attempts to make them, missing weight each time. All those limbs then appeared on the limb in stock list, which had nothing above 60#. Plus he received terrible customer service.

Just wondering if there is a trend in heavy carbon limbs being unreliable or difficult to produce?

Ozy,
I can not speak for the limbs up in the high weights. I shoot a max of 50# at my 29” draw. Which is 42-44# limbs on a 19” riser. In the last 2 years I have Loved the EVO2 EX1. Now I am moving into the Xcurves. I defiantly see the difference.
This is the first I have been hearing about the carbon issues. :dunno:

Take a look at Morrisons Max 6 limbs.  Check out their videos on the web site.  Then call Brandon at the shop and ask him questions.  Great guy and glad to answer questions.

I think Border to be the fastest but they do load early. That is where the speed originates.  They do not "let-off" but during the last 2 inches of intended draw cycle the draw weight increase very little.  Especially the Hex 8s.  Hex 7.2 and 7.2 to a slightly lower degree.  Email [email protected] and ask him about the best limb length for you.

I know of a guy that has a set of Hex 7.2 ILF for sale if you decide to just go that way.
You should feel free to contact me if you have questions on Borders.  No expert, but I have owned and shot a bunch of them.
Super Curves.....
Covert Hunter Hex9h
Morrison Max 6 ILF
Mountain Muffler strings to keep them quiet
Shoot as much weight as you can with accuracy
