Passing the time while he's taking a dump with whatever he could find in the immediate vicinity to focus his attention on to relax himself.

Looks like he is demonstrating how that fungus will catch a spark from a flint and steel.

Looks like he's roasting a turd in my grandmother's living room. Those drapes are the same color green as hers.  :goldtooth:

Burning dung for cover scent?

This^^^^^^

It’s pretty common in Africa. I seen it done in person several times.

I’ve used smoke as a cover scent for many years. I just use leaves and pine straw.
Having done so much, with so little, for so long, I can now do anything with nothing.

My guess is he is trying to get a glowing coal after striking a spark with flint and steel.  In lighting a fire with flint and steel you need a "char" to receive the spark that you then blow on to get a glowing coal before applying the coal to your tinder.

Done it thousands of times in my younger days while trekking 18th century.

This method does it without an open flame ...no open flame or heat added to an already hot blind...just sits and smolders.

What does it smell like? I've heard that burnt moose pellets smell oddly great...
