New 3pc Black Swan Hybrid
« on: April 07, 2008, 10:09:00 PM »
I received this bow a week ago and wanted to test it out right so I could give a honest intial review. The Swan is a 64" three piece hybrid with the aluminum riser, medium-high wrist, carbon on the front with ceramic on the belly of the limbs. She's 50@28 and I draw around 27.5 inches. I started with a brace height of 7 inches and 3/8 for the nock height. Moved up to 7.25 brace height and 1/2 nock height and found the sweet spot. Arrows were 29.5 A.D. Tradlites with 200gr up front. As an after thought, a set of catwhiskers trimmed down some earned the Swan "quiet as a church mouse" status. Now, for what some of you are wondering.....Yes, it's really fast, noticably faster than my Arroyo that's 51@28 shooting a GT 3555 (mid 170's), but that's just an added bonus. I love the grip on this bow, it fits my hand perfectly, and the added mass weight of the riser really helps my stability....bottom line, I shoot it very well. The Swan met all three requirements I wanted; quiet, excellent grip, and fast for a guy with a short draw, with flying colors. As soon as I can get around a chronograph, I'll post the results for those you might be interested. Thanks to David "Vermonster13" Knipes who took the time to answer all the questions I had about these bows, and for helping me to be patient enough to play the waiting game to get what I really wanted. Thanks David, it really was worth the wait.....Hope to share a campfire with you one day.   :campfire:

Hey Darrell, that's a great looking mount hanging on your wall.  Your taxidermist did you right on that one...  The Swan is pretty cool also...  Jim

That is very nice!!  What are they running in cost at this time, if you don't mind me asking?  I have thought in the past about getting one of these and my draw is even shorter than yours!

Great looking profile. The grip looks like it would be very comfortable. Like HorneShooter said, it just looks fast.

That sure is nice...I am waiting on one of the 56" hybrid one peice, but I am thinking of switching to the 3 peice hybrid or longbow.  How long did you wait?

Thanks for the compliments guys. I ordered in March of last year and the price then was $900 for the 3pc. Mr.Arvid was out of comission for a while after I ordered due to a surgery to repair some old injuries that he sustained in Vietnam, after he was well, he got back to building. It was a long wait (to me at least) but now, after getting to shoot it......man it was worth the wait. I love the narrow throat on the grip, very positive hand placement, easy for me to shoot well. I don't know what his wait time as of right now, but I'm impressed, and I'd wait another year for another one.

Mark "bayoulongbowman"- I'm off Friday if you're free. Lets go shoot !!!
Vermonster13- Please have Mr. Arvid ship your 56" hybrid to me for a test drive.....you're still healing, and I'd hate for you to over do it.   :goldtooth:

Dave, are you getting the new 56" Brushfire or is Avrid making a 56" Impala?? Either way post some pics and results whenever you get that one!

Just curious if you have had time to chrono that baby yet?  It sure looks like a shooter!

Do you find that the metal riser reduces noice more than a wood riser?
