'THE USELESS SEASON' Begins Early in 2019

Well, it has officially begun this year . . . like it does every year.  My lovely bride has verbally noted that 'THE USELESS SEASON' has arrived.  It is that time each year when she notes that I become so focused and self-absorbed on Archery Deer Season that I become 'USELESS' to her, the family, my non-hunting friends and around the home.  The 'USELESS SEASON' generally occurs around September 1 each year, so to have her notice it on August 20 is a little early.  Oh well . . . ya can't stop inevitability.  I'll check back in with her around January 1 when Archery Deer Season in Pure Michigan ends.

Sue’s Birthday is 2 OCT. That’s the last firm commitment she gets from me till after the holidays. She’s used to it. It’s either birding with the dogs or out with my bow. We eat 2-3 deer a year so she’s also good with that part. No elk hunt this year. No bueno!  We’re in for 2020 though.

Yep, and useless pre-season football has started as well.
I hope to miss as many regular season games as I can by being in the woods.

yep that does sound familiar...around here my wife starts in early august every year with (DRUM ROLL PLEASE)

"before your hunting/vacation starts can you...do this...fix that...put this away and what ever she can think of that might be need before the snow flies and you forget where you live"

this year i told her it was getting old and i started counting how many times she says it...were up to 5 and counting

WOW Chain2 - you're from Michigan and married a girl born on October 2.  Blasphemy!  October is sacred round these parts.  I warned my two sons to not pick wives who were born in Oct/Nov.  I also told them about the importance of proper 'family planning' and recommend they not have children born in Oct/Nov.  After all . . . a man has to have his priorities straight!

Yah durp, I've heard that tune for years too.  One year the wife had tons (literally) of 1 1/2' landscape stones dropped off in the driveway.  I was told that I could only hunt after they were all shoveled, wheelbarrowed, placed in the appropriate locations all around the perimeter of the house, and the driveway was empty and clean.  I was ready to hunt on Oct. 1 (barely) and in the best shape I'd been in several years.  Strong arms and back muscles and callous hands made drawing the longbow a piece of cake.

I rattled off a whole list of things I need to get done before winter comes during September and October over coffee this morning with the wife unit and she gave me that look and said, "Yeah...you know you're not doing any of that before hunting season."

She knows me too well.

My wife is smart.
Her birthday is September 28 and I have to celebrate her birthday for the full month of September.
And you know what, she never bugs me about hunting.
And she even shoots with me sometimes.

I look at her Birthday as a positive. With it being the 2nd, I’ll never forget it. She puts up with me. I’m a lucky man.

Mine argues with me over who gets to hunt what stand when, guess it could be worse, she'll look at a dandy on trail cam and claim that's her spot. As I write this I'm looking at two of hers  on the wall and thinking maybe I should vet  the sd cards first before letting her see what's where, naw we have too much fun, good deal having one who will share those times.

Exactly, my Granddaughter was born at our bow season opener and I asked the girl, what were y’all thinking? I recommended parties be held on days I won’t be in a tree.

Sorry guys, you’re way too soft. I don’t care what they think. I don’t do drugs, drink, run around w broads, I work, don’t blow cash, etc (buying bows ain’t blowing cash). I treat em good all year. If a few months are too much trouble they can straight up leave. Couldn’t care less. See if they can do better. If so God bless em. I’m still going bowhunting.

In my house I have what I call “wife season” and it starts Jan 1 and runs for a few months 😆

Jan. 1 - Wife Season . . . I like the idea.  I even have the necessary license. 

However, as I turn 66 years old this month and as 'Wife Season' will be immediately after the close of Archery Deer Season, I may need to recuperate a little so I can perform well during this exciting hunt!  But I got distracted . . . back to 'The Useless Season' for a few months first.  Let the hunt(s) begin!

You guys get off light. I’m on call every day no mater what, and who cares about hunting. Mine will book a vacation in a minute even under my protests. I never get November off no mater how much I kick and scream.
