I hope no one tries to ride it out. It's not worth it and if it does hit there is nothing you can do about it. Lots of folks have died trying to save their property. If it misses, all you've lost is a little time and some gas and food money.
I grew up in Savannah and lived in Coastal SC. Hurricane Hugo missed the Bluffton/Hilton Head area by resting in the Gulf Stream for a while and mover 1 degree north and slammed into Charleston. We evacuated and headed for higher ground then went to Charleston the next day to bring food and supplies to a friend in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The damage we saw as we traveled Hwy 17 to Charleston was amazing and in Charleston and the surrounding area was devastating.
