Current 1959 Kodiak values
« on: August 30, 2019, 09:05:16 PM »
Guys,
I have a question for the Kodiak collectors out there. I was looking at a 59 Kodiak today (60" 50 lb). The bow appears sound - tips seem tight and the bow seems straight. Now for the bad it was painted in the 1960s with duck boat paint - its actually kind cool looking but brush painted. It has a quiver bushing with the correct leathertop bolt on quiver but its been painted too. It 2 has holes for an old sight and arrow holder. So in whole a shooter bow not collector bow. Im not a collector but always wanted a 59 to hunt with. The seller was asking $250 and I thought that was a little steep given the holes and paint. I offered $175 and think I kinda offended the guy - am I off on the market? I didn't intend to offend the fella but I didnt want to get in too deep. Also could only get pics and could not handle the bow. Whats a reasonable price right now for a bow in this condition - sorry no pics. The 59 market doesn't seem to be as strong since the repro came out.
Thanks

BTW hope I'm not asking a question thats against any forum rules but I did not want to be unfair to the seller. I know as bow shooters we often invest in things that will never give us a monetary return but bows of this vintage scare me a little because I've had one delaminate into my head before. If its fair I may indeed get it but I don't need a wall hanger. I'm a hunter not a collector.

lLke all things, its worth what a buyer motivated but not coerced to buy will pay and a seller motivated but not coerced to sell will accept. Without the paint job, that combo is $500 + /-.
with the home made camo, maybe $450.

I've adopted too many bows that needed a good home.

Yes, $250 seems more than fair with quiver.

A lot of money for something you can't put in your hands.  Brush on paint job on bow and quiver sounds a bit odd to me. I would walk.
