Lofton longbows
« on: September 01, 2019, 09:05:13 PM »
Im considering doing a trade for a lofton longbow a guy has. Ive never had my hands on one but this one looks like a 60" reverse handle hill style. Anybody have any expirience on how they shoot?

I bought one 30 years ago, 63#@28", 64" long with the reverse handle. Good shooter, drew smooth and very little hand shock. Kept it for several years and sold it when I started dropping in bow weight. Guy that bought it still has it, just too heavy for him to shoot now! Good bows in my experience. Bob Lofton was a fine bowyer, but he has been gone for quite a few years now.

I have a Choctaw Chief 48@28 64". It's not a reverse handle though. It is a fine shooter.

I had a Lofton Hill Style longbow, 70@28, for a number of years.  While it was not a reverse handle it was a very quick and stable bow.  After about 20 years of me owning (second owner) and shooting it, the bow blew up at the top fade at full draw.  Really miss that bow.

The one im looking at is 65# @ 28" which i normally shoot around a 26" draw with this type bow. I figure that should drop me down to around 59-60# depending on how it builds weight which is only about 8# more than i usually shoot.

My wife has a 62 inch, 42 lb. at 28 Choctaw Chief.  It's smooth drawing, and a very good shooter.
