Hey Joe, sounds like a great morning in the stand.  Tonight I seen 2 bucks on public land. The second I could hear tearing up a tree and grunting.  I think I detected a pattern and know where to sit next time. Only a 50 yard adjustment

He was only about five yards away at the shot. He was approaching head on and would pass by on the left of the ladder stand. I shot him slightly angling on. He took a couple fast steps and then stopped and stood there for a few seconds before running away. But he only got 25 yds.

This is where he stopped.

Congratulations Greg!  I love it when they fall in sight.  Bucks tend to know when you've punched your tag. I've been trying to shoot a doe and I'm over run with bucks. I've had over 10 bucks in range in the last three evening hunts. Ha!

Well done, Greg.  I see you've swapped out your Robertson for an ILF on this hunt.

Only downside with shooting a buck in October is November can become pretty long unless you can shoot does in your neck of the woods.   :bigsmyl:

1st afternoon at bow camp today.  Passed up a 3 pt during the first 20 minutes. Saw a doe running all over just before, assumed she was in serious but didn't see any suitors.   Saw a nice 2.5 year old but too far for s shot. Saw the 3 point again just before dark.

It sure is nice to be back in camp.

My dad whiffed a nice one at 18 yards. A bit low

The next morning I had a button buck at 10 yards. Was thinking about shooting him but the clouds sepeated and lit me up. He gave me the stink eye until outta range. No more deer seen the rest of monday by myself or my dad.

The next day was windy as well as monday. Forecast said 5-9 MPH.  it was more like 25-30 mph with gusts of 40. Dad saw 3 bucks in the morning. After lunch I went to the stand I saw the button buck in. Brushed it in much better. Was planning on sitting it but the wind changed wasnt right so I moved to a stand we call the dump stand

Figured the day was a bust for me for sightings but ended up seeing 5 small bucks and a doe before dark. Most forks and a spike. My little brother made it camp so I was happy about going back and chewing fat by the wood stove. Last night it started snowing heavy  and didn't let up till 11 am today.

We slept in

This morning we made breakfast and talked about old seasons. I prepped dinner. It's a venison shank recipe that I'd slow cook in the dutch oven while hunting. Put it in the oven at 11. 225 for6 hours. Fall off the bone excellence

So after the snow stopped at 11, I threw dinner in the oven anfheaded out in the fresh fluff.  I was In the stand 15-20 minutes and had a doe and fawn come up from the creek bottom. I think they winded me. This stand is on the the rounded corner of a steep hill. I'm beginning to realize that if the wind is west, north west, or north, it comes past this stand north west and is wrong.  The way it funnels through its almost always wrong.  Then a while later I saw a doe, I think she may have caught a whiff. A while later I saw a beautiful buck easily Pope and young. He came down the opposing hill and stopped in the creek bottom.  He stood there 10 + minutes under an apple tree. After he started walking I snort wheezed but dont think he huh heard me. He stopped in thick cover again so I tried snort wheezing again. Dont think he heard me. When he started walking again I grunted and he took off. Bummer.  Saw another doe or two, too far and on the neighbor's property.  It started snowing heavily.  Just before dark had a small buck chasing does all over. Thought I'd get a shot at one but I think it smelled me. In any event,  10 deer seen nothing close to shoot at. I'll need to rethink this area. Great spot hard to hunt ....
