Bamboo Backed something...
« on: September 15, 2019, 07:09:37 PM »
I believe I have a piece of Ipe that I'm working with.  It was found on the side of the road.  Anyway, I've made a z splice and glued it up.  I've got a piece of prepped bamboo that I'm planning on glueing up to back the bow.  I'm considering using EA-40 for this process.  Do I have to heat it?  Is there an epoxy, or other material, that wouldn't require a heat to cure it?

EA-40 works fine at room temp. Just takes 24hrs to cure. Which is not a problem if you are using clamps or strapping. Every 18deg increase over 70deg cuts the cure time in half.

What kind of neighborhood do you live in?  There’s Ipe just laying along the road?

Bvas, Illinois wouldn’t give us anything good for free.  A coworker saw the hunk of wood and thought of me.  He pulled over and brought it into work.  It’s so dense and dark red that I have to believe it’s ipe.  Regardless, thanks for the reply.
