I clip the far ends of the bundles when I make the first loop. I put a second clip at the base of the first loop's splice. Then I count how many twists to straighten them (about ten rolls through my fingers), then do that many again to put in "reverse twist." At that point I do the second loop, twisting in the same direction as the first loop. As you do that, you will work out that "reverse twist" you put in and avoid the cabling. Smooth it and twist the whole thing a few twists and you're golden. As was said, I got this from youtube years ago and I would go there for advice. Probably even better stuff out there now.
