Recurve Thoughts
« on: September 21, 2019, 04:26:26 AM »
I have been thinking about building a curve for a while and looking at other designs but the problem I'm finding is at my 31" draw is most 60" are not rated(stack) past 29" I have a custom 64"Black Widow curve that's a great bow thought of tracing the limbs but really don't have time for the R&D involved to get it right & would really like a 58"-60" blind bow , any body got any ideas or thoughts ?

Not a recurve, but look at Shrew Bows.  He builds short bows that draw past 32".  His bows may give you some ideas.

Ritchie, I think you already have a short blind bow , so you are turning to recurves to be able to keep building bows. Better hope the missus don't catch on...

You may wanna look at a static tip bow . ?

Well Kenny if she hasn't caught on by now she needs some new glasses....lol every time I start considering a short curve at my draw I conclude I would be better off with redesigning the FH hybrid for a short long draw bow I might have found the perfect solution with my current project will know soon !

Well you could get a taller blind    :bigsmyl: I am not so sure you would like a short curve with your draw length anyhow. I think the FHLB design with the shorter riser will be the ticket. Mine now 58 in. has a 13.5 riser and will go 32 no problem and still good string angle.

How about a 50's style recurve, like a Thunderbird or Blackhawk. Lots of working limb for your draw.

I'm trying to picture those bows wasn't the Black hawk pretty much a long bow with static recurve tips ?

Just to give you another option or Idea...  Take a look at the bow that I just built...  It is 64" ntn but there was no stacking up to 30"...  You may be able to shorten it...  I am actually in the process of making another set of limbs...  I am gonna make them a bit shorter...  The Shrew bow looks like a cool bow... If I was to go short I would possibly try that design...  There is a guy on one of these forums that builds a nice looking 48" recurve...

Sorry should have been more specific. I think all the bows were black hawks, I was thinking of the "Bee"
model. I always liked those recurves that handled like longbows. Go figure ;)

I have a '70's vintage 54" Shakespeare Necedah that draws stack free to 31".  If you are interested I could probably trace the limbs and measure the other specs.

I think all recurves 62" could be drawn to 31"

I have a old 60" sears recurve up in the rafters that I shot four years before I even knew my draw length or what stack was but in hind sight it had a lot of finger pinch Im sure a 62" would work , Mike I appreciate the offer but still tossing ideas a round , part of the problem with starting a new design is the $$ to get to where you want, I would probably be smarter just to make more changes in the FH design I all ready have a lot of $$ invested and if I add addtional reflex & different riser I would have a pretty good guess at the stack & glass or carbon combos , if there was a proven recurve design that drew stack free @31 60" where there was data for stack etc , I might give it a go but I havent found any !

Hey Rich looks like your morphing into the Shrew design, checkout the shrew lil favorite for a recurve.  All the R/D has already been done and possibly already went through what you have to come up with there designs, you may be able to modify a bit for yourself, many have been through this kind of thing before, just like the wheel. Have fun and good luck to ya.

For even more ideas take a look at Java Man bows and the Toelke 52" Troll.
