well it all started 9-26-19, after work I got a cup of coffee and sat in my lawn chair to rest a bit. the weather was cooler than it had been for some time. I was off work the next day sinse we had finished the job we were on. so I decided to go to the woods just to get out and get a feel for what was going on.
the evening before I was shooting pretty good at 18 yds. and felt pretty confident in my ability to make a good shot if one was presented to me.
so I threw my stuff in the truck and headed to the woods , wanting to get there early enough not to spook anything . but not so early that I would have to sit for hours before prime time.
I slipped in through a trail I have been working on for a few yrs. trimming a little every time I move through there. its nothing more than a vine thicket on the edge of a small clearing maybe 75 yds long and 25 yds across. with a major scrape tree in it that every deer around visits. I haven't got out to put a camera up to see what was showing up at the scrape. but I could see the ground was tore up under the tree while I was sneaking in to my spot. just a 5 gal bucket under a small tree that created a perfect hideout since it was darker inside under the canopy of vines and leaves.
as I sat on the bucket I was hoping it wouldnt crumble under my weight sinse it has been there for about 5 yrs. I cut the top off of a stem to put my camera on. hey that's pretty handy!
every where I tried to lean my bow it would move leaves so I had to find a good spot to lean my bow so I could pick it up without leaves and limbs moving.
so the wait begins...….
I look at my phone and sunset is in about an hour...….
I start thinking of all the times I sat here and didn't see anything...…
move some leaves from around my feet...….
the sun is getting low, just above the hill behind me....
look theres a deer..
horns....its a six pointer...cool!
another one...and another....
binoculars come up … nice buck with sticker points on his g-2s and on his bases
looks like 12 points
the other buck is bigger , body wise, rack is similar just a clean 8 pointer
I decide to shoot the eight if given a chance and here they come.
the multi pointed buck turns and walks right towards me and im very tempted to shoot him , I maybe could have closed my eyes and still heart shot him he was so close.
the 8 pointer is at about 10 yds and moving closer , then he moves into my shooting hole. and I draw...was kind of thinking of not shooting sinse it was so early in the season, but then the arrow was gone..
the video is not very good but it shows how things happened.
sorry for the long winded story, glad you read it. good luck all.
