Limb twist
« on: October 03, 2019, 10:20:47 AM »
My buddies nephew has a Dynasty 56" recurve 50# at 27". He asked me to make him a new string because he said the old one would keep flipping over on him when he strung it. So I made a 52" flemish twist out of B50. I strung the bow up, it has about 6 1/2-7" brace and when I was shooting it the limb twisted and the string popped off. I restrung it and noticed the limbs had some twist to them. I thought it might be the string so  I remade it with smaller loops and same thing limbs are twisted. I then made an endless loop string for it and still have slight limb twist, the string stay on and shoots but I can't figure out why the limbs are twisting. Can the limbs go bad? I can't find any defects in the bow limbs visible. I can't even find any info online about this brand of bow. What do you all think?

Sounds like a P.O.S.  Mass produced overseas maybe?
I'm sure there are some folks here who can give you recommendations for dealing with twisted limbs.
I would get another bow, or better yet, make one.

Pics of the twist would help. To see how bad it is. Sometimes you can run hot water on the twist and hold it back the other way until it cools and get it out. May take more than one try or may not work at all.

Do the string grooves seem to be cut into the same depth on both sides of both limbs?

I will try to get pics up, but the string grooves look even, and limbs seem to be square. It could very well be mass produced, but it was made for specific person their  name was inked on the bow and it has a serial number. May have been someone trying to start up a small bussiness and didn't work out. Im thinking about filing the string groove accordingly to see if they can be straightened out. Its shooting but I don't know for how long. Just hate to tell the kid he may have bought a lemon.

Cell phones take huge pictures and they time out when trying to load to tg.

Go into the camera settings for the phone and select the smallest file size it has listed.

That should fix ya up.

It was a used Bow? That makes it even worse. Somebody sold a bow with a known defect. There is a special place in Bowyers hell for people like that. Might be some small cell phones waiting there for them. :scared:
