Java man Elkhart length advice?
« on: October 07, 2019, 05:30:02 PM »
On the list want a short bow about 28” draw maybe a tad over. The 54” would be sweet, 56 I’m not gain much in terms of shortness over my 62” stalker which strung is about 58”

Advice if you have one and shot one ? I know you never regret going longer but I want to be this right

I draw 29 and think the 56 is perfect.  The 54 is ok and the 58 has an extra smoothness but isnt necessary for me.  I think at 28  a 56 would be dandy.

I think at 28 youll get the most potential performance from the 56, but if 1 extra inch on each end wont affect your plans and extra stability is your priority 58 would be fine.  The only reason my Ogemaw is 58 is the limb isnt as aggressive as an Elkheart so needs to be longer for me.

At 28” the 54” is plenty smooth. I draw 28” and I like the 52”. I’ve had elkhearts from 52”-58”. I like short bows. If 54” is what you want, I’d say go for for it..

I had a 56”, 51#  Shrew Classic hunter that Gregg made. I wish I had that one back. And a Helms Deep 54”. I liked them both but the edge would go to the 56” for me.

I'm wondering why u r comparing the 62" stalker (strung 58") to a 56" unstrung Elhart and saying your not gaining much.

58 “ (62 strung) vs 54.5 (56 strung) = 3.5 “

I really think the 56” Elkhearts are the sweet spot of the  Elkheart line!

I love my 54”ers, you would be fine at a 28” draw.

When I spoke with Gregg regarding an Elkheart for my 28 1/4” draw he said the 54” may be a touch short, but the 56” would be perfect.

I have a Elkhart 52" takedown 48lb @ 28" and draw 28'' with little to no stacking and surprisingly very little finger pinch.  I have several other short bows (6) in the 52-54'' range and non are as smooth, stable, and finger friendly as the Java.

Bought a used 54”, blown away with it, if you would have told me I could shot a 54” longbow with the accuracy of my 62” stalker, I’d said ur on drugs.

Followed my own advice and bought a 56” to be used in cold weather.  Very happy with it.
