Purchasing a new to me Widow.
It has the original owner’s name on it.
I’s there an easy way to remove the name?
Thanks

I would give Black Widow a call. They are very helpful and willing.

My Jack Howard Jet says Good Luck to Mike on it. I'm pretty sure the guy I got it from was not named Mike. Just one of the things with buying a second hand bow.

At one time, Black Widow sold a small oval decal that you could place over the area. Not sure if that's still an option, but...……………………………

I have a Wes Wallace Mentor I traded for with a friend. It has his name on it and I keep it there as a reminder of friendships.

The writing is most likely under the finish, so it would have to be sanded down to get rid of it, and then refinished in that area.

Another option is to take a black or brown paint marker and color a neat box over the existing name. Then you could take a fine tip paint pen in lighter color and write your name or whatever saying you want in the dark box.

I’ve had good success removing names by using 400 & 600 grit wet sand paper. On most bows the writing is just under the top coat of finish, once you cut through the top coat the writing disappears easily. The trick is to match the original finish. Most BWs are satin finish so Helmsman satin urethane matches well, just feather it in with the spray. Gloss finishes are more work to match and require the application and rubbing compound to get a good match.

All good suggestions. Thanks.
I did speak with Roger at BW today. He confirmed that the name is painted on and then a clear layer of paint is then sprayed over the limb. So to remove it would require sanding the clear finish and then the name.
He suggested I just shoot it for a while to make sure I like it and want to keep it long term. And then after a few nicks and dings make it worth it, to send it in to refinish. (or do what shootinstinks described).
And confirmed putting a sticker on it if it bugs me in the meantime.

I agree with the last suggestion from Roger. If you are going to keep it, have it refinished after using it enough to know if it is worth it.
