Shooting tabs
« on: October 14, 2019, 05:23:29 PM »
Hey guys, I’m a new at traditional. I’m shooting a longbow I had custom made. 45# 28” draw. Right now I’m shooting a three finger glove by Neet. I would like some advice on a shooting tab.

Tabs are like most everything else in this game. There’s a million of them, and it’s just personal preference as to which is best. I am a hunter, and I like the old style Saunders Pak-Tab. Bateman, Black Widow, Jenkins, Yost,  they all make great tabs. You just need to try a few different ones and see which you prefer.

What Bisch said.   Except, I LOVE my Eagle's Flight Archery tab.

I agree with Bisch. Try a bunch and see what you like. My preference is calf hair.

Yep. My preference is a super beat up, thin as can be, calf hair tab with the spacer removed.  I like to feel the string

I've tried a bunch and keep coming back to the Bateman cordovan tabs. They hold up super well and the more you shoot them the slicker they get. They're also priced right at about 15 a piece. I've easily got 5 thousand shots on the one I'm currently shooting and it's still going strong.

Another in agreement with Bisch.  I prefer the Saunders Pak-Tab to any other, and I've tried a bunch.

Like Bisch said, try out some and go from there.  Just like bows, you need several back ups in your arsenal.

However, Rick makes a nice tab, very nice.  I should point out it's not a cordovan face, it's ballistic nylon and needs to be "treated" periodically with coconut oil.

That said, it's what my son and I both use....... My Safari Tuff is a great back up....

Toelke tab for me. I found the calf hair to wear off very soon - the toelke sheep wool tab is comfortable and hard wearing

Been trying to get a Rick Barbee Death adder tab. His site says he's not taking orders. Still.

I cut two forms from buffalo leather and sew them together with a horizontal line of stitches across the back (forward of the circle my middle finger fits through, along with a single stitch at the back of this ring).

I wouldn't mind a recommendation for a new tab myself though. I keep shooting my nocks off with this one.  :dunno:
