Story time....
« on: October 16, 2019, 12:06:29 PM »
So I got a new longbow from John at JT Traditional archery while I was elk hunting this year. And when I got home back to Tx. I took it out for its first hunt and was fortunate to have some hogs walk out in front of me. I made a pretty good hit on a sow and a short trail later I had my first kill with the new carbon longbow..

I got a new ILF recurve in a trade and have been trying to shoot with a dedicated form with 3-under. The bow is 44@30-64in and I’m shooten it pretty good and getting my personal shot down I think. I’m shooting 3-under with about a 3-5 second hold and pulling through the shot. I just look at what I want to hit not using a gap system , it’s the way I want to shoot and not based on anyone else’s.
So I’m working on my shot and slowly getting better and I’m also enjoying the lighter bows ( my left wrist has been bothering me some , the lighter bows don’t seem to bother it as much ). I haven’t been real serious about chasing deer because of the dang heat and other crap going on. Also have been trying the tradvanes and I have to say I like em. With the new rig and somewhat cooler temps it’s time to get some blood on the new bow. Last week with a cold front in I was in the tree full of confidence and when a nice buck with spit G2 came by at about 17yds. I hit full draw locked in low on his heart held and released a beautiful arrow that flew just under his chest.....

Just took her back for emergency procedure ( not good ) so this keeps my mind right...

As I said I got a bad phone call about my sister the other day and headed up to the hospital. And as life is it ain’t good so best I can tell y’all is live it up everyday you are able. So after spending a few days with her I went home to clean up and get some rest. They told us it would be a quad bypass in a few days so I told my sis I would be back tomorrow at noon so she could rest. I wasn’t able to sleep so I told my wife I was going to the cabin for the night and would hunt in the morning then head back to the hospital. Bet I did not get 2 hours of sleep with the bright moon and all the crap going on....

The cabin is a great place to go for getting away from everything and everyone...

I'm sure the deer will feel the sting of that arrow soon.  A prayer for your sister though.  And for her medical team.

Thanks everyone , we are in ICU waiting on the surgical team now...

So I was already up and no chance of going back to sleep and it’s 4am and bright as hell out with moonlight. Figure I’m not going to see much movement with the conditions but I needed to be hunting. With 3 hours until shooting light I had plenty of time to think about where to go. Ended up in a brush blind an hour before shooting time and deer were on the move soon after I sat down. I could see the shadows and hear them moving around out in front of me. Just as it was getting good light several deer were feeding around so it was looking good. For the next 20min several doe and a few small bucks moved in and out of range , was great to be out in the woods. I was off in wonderland thinking about other things when I looked over to the right and see 2 nice bucks headed my way.  Now back in hunt mode I need to figure out witch one to try for if they get close enough. I made a choice that I wanted the 2nd buck if possible. With several sets of eyes lose at hand I started getting set for a shot from my brush blind. As luck would have it they stopped short and had a little sparing match to impress the girls and make one made a scrape and the other rubbed a tree. It all went on about 30yds from me so I’m pretty worked up about now. One is a tall tined 8pt and the one I wanted is a mainframe 8 with a split G2 and heavier horned......

Thanks again for the well wishes ,  still waiting on the surgeons to make a decision..

So I must be living right cause they both ended up coming my way and passed at about 16-17yds. Got my bow ready and got drawn and locked in on him and honestly the 44lbs feels very inadequate. When I dropped the string on him inadequate it’s not the little 500gr arrow tipped with a Cut Throat blew through him like nothing. I saw a very large spray of blood come out the off side and he bolted forward for about 25yds and stopped and started looking around. By the time I got my binos up to look him over he had fallen over and was dead in seconds. I found the arrow stuck in an old cedar stump.......
