First deer in 5 years
« on: October 21, 2019, 09:02:35 PM »
As the title states I killed my first deer with a bow in 5 years this evening, when I was 16 I picked up a tradbow and hunted with it for 2 years before getting my first. After that I started college and working various jobs along with playing baseball and had little time for bowhunting. I now have more time on my hands, being out of school and I took this doe feeding under a white oak tree at about 4:30. I wasn't sure about the shot initially, blood was sparse so I went and got my dad and brother to help track. We followed skid marks in the leaves for about 40 yards until my dad looked down into the hollow and saw the telltale white belly laying in a spring. The shot was a little forward, into the shoulder but the broadhead went through and cut the ribs on the offside. My setup was a galaxy black ridge longbow @ 50 lbs, beman ics hunter arrows and Carbon Express piledriver boradheads 100 grains with a 100 grain brass insert. As November approaches I hope to have a good buck posted on here next.

Congratulations on a fine deer.

You done good.....really good.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Well done-you will remember for a long time.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.
