Update on prostate Cancer meeting with Doc... Oct 28
« on: October 28, 2019, 05:35:04 PM »
WEll, it's been an interesting WEEK since I learned the latest 6 mos PSA went thru the roof--- post treatment... (hit 9.7 and started prior to radiation at 7.5

I had to chuckle on the way to the Urologists meeting today, a solid week after I got the PSA results.. it hit me that I felt like I was driving to me own funeral...now there'd be a unique experience... :)

Anyway, on a more serious note:

He said he was surprised that the PSA shot up so high, but his take is that means that there were some cells, cancer cells, that got outside the prostate and into either a lymph or bone area...

His VIEW is that a few thousand such cells would have shown up on the bone and lymph scan they did prior to treatment, so he's inclined to think that those cells more likely (???) are in the hundreds but are still putting out PSA readings, thus the elevated test readings...

OPTIONS: he said we could do a PET scan but since it's only been a year, he doubts they'd show much, but it might...big word, MIGHT, like "IF"

He also said we could start two daily pills that can intervene with cancer cell growth, but they are generic and have a few side effects:

His advice is to get the Colonoscopy done to snip out any pre cancerous polyps or diverticuli and wait 3 mos for another PSA test and depending on THOSE results perhaps start the pills...

Better'n a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, but so far they've been wrong on most everything they've thought so it doesn't fill me with joy or tons of confidence...

Now, back to finding an affordable RX plan required by the Govt

Thanks to all who pray...always appreciated... as one chap here years ago was quick to share from his daughter about his son's problems, she said, "God is the bestest Doc anyway"

Funny, as one ages how concerns can vary in a flash!

Monday I saw the Urology doc and felt he was doing a lot of "guessing" on the cancer, then Tuesday I get up, do my back stretches on the floor, go out and mulch leaves with riding mower and then mow as we had rain and a few warm days so things shot up...

Took some cleaning to get the mower back in shape after that...leaf blower, then a hose...then blower again to remove water.  Thankfully, tuesday was sorta sunny and not terribly chilly or too breezy.

Put up mower when clean and dry and came in to clean ME up... shaving something flew into my back and by the time I showered it was the worst pain I've known and I've had some pain....

I didn't sleep much for the pain Tuesday night in a recliner, but then got to my Doc first thing Wednesday AM and got appt for that mid afternoon... Neighbor is retired and graciously took me so I didn't have far to walk as it hurt like blue fire... had to use Dad's walker to keep from taking a nose dive... No joy there... I could've seen my favorite PT right before the Doc appt, but I stupidly went for the doc instead...now only slot for PT is next WEdnesday!  GAK :scared:  Seeing the Doc didn't do much for me...

Live and learn... So as I said, funny how something that seems so powerful can change in a blink of an eye: from one malaise to something else in a flash! :(

That's the Good Lord's way of not letting you worry too much about one particular thing...
Adding it to your prayer list. My back boxes with me on a regular basis so I know where you're coming from. And it ain't no picnic.

Thanks, Guys!  Slow getting on here as I did get a text to be at PT at 8am this morning and that was a bit of work...I got NO sleep last night so had plenty of time to think and pray...

Bad news is that while it's the good news of the SI joint locking up (Old malaise) the lock up is so severe they could do nothing to manipulate me to unlock it...got me a anti-inflammation shot in that hip after PT failure and so far (only couple hours) its not done jack but I am cold so I'll be getting off here sinc where computer is ain't heated... :(

Continued prayers for you Dave.  I sincerely hope that your Doctor has the wisdom to find the real reason for your increased PSA score, and if not, to be humble enough to ask a colleague for their input.  I also hope that your back pain "diversion" alleviates and you get relief and comfort.
