High foc tuning
« on: October 28, 2019, 06:07:45 PM »
Hey guys I'm playing around with some high afosi stuff again for the first time in quite a while. I have the setup I'm playing with that was kind of where I dropped it a while ago and I'm just kind of revisiting that. I think it's around 25% off memory I know it's over 20 and when bare shaft tuning it drills perfectly left to right and penetrates well. Actually considerably more than my other arrows. What I'm wondering about and I just can't remember, is it common for a heavy left tail kick even though left to right impact point is perfect on a high FOC set up?

I shoot a moderately high FOC arrow. I find with my own arrow tuning that I need more than just same POI with bareshafts. I need the arrow entering the target straight, or my broadheads fly funky. I also have a very long draw length, so your mileage may vary.

Mid range Extreme to Ultra EFOC will typically demonstrate an initial left kick right out of the gate for a right handed archer.

Yet, will correct much quicker than a normal FOC arrow. An Ultra EFOC arrow will correct in nearly half the distance of a normal FOC arrow.

Bare shaft planning method and/or Broadhead tuning verification is an excellent way to tune. Have been able to shoot Ultra EFOC bare shafts in a brisk wind and keep them on the mark at 25 yards.

Arrow is weak. How much do you have left to cut?

I got an inch to cut still. I'm getting a big left tail kick but it buries deep and straight in a new foam target. Other combos with less foc kick less but enter angled. So l wasn't sure what a perfectly tuned bare high FOC shaft looked like.

Will a high FOC bare shaft tuned right shoot beautiful like a bullet?

Keep in mind you will want to use much smaller feathers with the high foc! And I'd say you're weak, my tuned setups don't kick left or right, but have had some up kicks, but not on every bow.

I end up pretty consistently with some nock high (bare shaft). Depending on how severe the tail kick is you may have to go to a stiffer spine. I’d cut a 1/4” at a time until I started to see improvement and then 1/8” until I was happy.
