Footing carbon arrows
« on: October 28, 2019, 07:32:45 PM »
Haven't really played around a footing arrows much.

Is there a rule of thumb or any common knowledge as to what typically works better a shorter insert and a longer footing or a long insert and a short footing? I am assuming same length wouldn't work very well as it wouldn't just make a shear point.

I like to foot my arrows. A lot of times an unfooted arrow will either break behind the insert or mushroom over. For that reason I like to foot past the insert. Keep in mind if your arrows are already tuned and you foot past the insert it has the same effect as shortening the arrow in my experience as you're reducing the flexible portion of shaft

When I fiddled with carbons briefly, I footed @1.5" and flush with the back of the broadhead.
