A great evening
« on: October 30, 2019, 05:12:22 PM »
Yesterday Oct 29, we got done at work an hour early. After a short rest at home I made up my mind to get an evening in on stand. I headed out to a stand on the far end of our  property. I’ve only hunted it one evening so far about amp the ago but last night was the perfect wind for that spot.
After settling in I waited a few minutes and made some noise with the rattle bag. About 15-20 minutes later I heard a slight noise and look down to see a little fork horn at the base of my tree. I watched him til he wandered off. About a half hour later I see a small doe coming from my right headed toward the field. She kept moving and between that and the limbs I didn’t get a shot.
5-10 minutes later I see another deer where she had come from. It’s a buck!
I watch him rubbing his antlers and face on branches while pawing in the leaves. This is cool!
Now I have a picture of a giant 8 point down behind my house so I don’t want to shoot a small buck. When this one turns to come toward me I quickly decide I want a shot at him.

He’s a nice buck. I don’t bother counting points, I’m just trying to get a shot. At first he is walking almost straight to me but that veers uphill right where he’s supposed to. Too many limbs for a good walking shot, so I wait for the moment and give a soft Uhhh! With my mouth. He stops and I have an opening between 2 branches I have to shoot thru. That helps me concentrate. When the arrow hits him I know he’s mine. Perfect shot. He bolts 60 yards and I can see him go down out in the field.  My best buck so far
