Who shoots victory arrows?
« on: November 04, 2019, 12:12:57 PM »
Who shoots victory arrows? I'm looking at VAP TKO .166 micro size or RIP TKO .205 axis size.

Just curious if any of you run these and what your setup is? They are supposed to be super tough. Much more so than the axis.

I shot the RIP TKO's this spring for turkeys. I like the basic arrow, and they certainly did their jobs on the turkeys. That being said, I don't think the outserts cover enough of the shafts to serve as any type of footing. I had a number of shafts mushroom at the point area while stumping.
I have since switched to Black Eagle Instincts, a heavier GPI shaft with better outsert system. I haven't had a failure yet at the point end, these are durable, well made shafts. In fact, I just bought more shafts last week. These might be the best shafts I have ever shot.

I am shooting the VAP TKOs and purchased outserts from Ethics Archery rather than shooting the stock outserts. The outsert has a post that fits snuggly on the interior of the arrow and allows length to be cut from this post for weight adjustment. The outsert slides about a 1/2" over the arrows providing that much of a footing. My outsert system weighs 180 grains.

I'm shooting the 400s and my finished arrow length from throat of nock to back of point is 30.25".

I shoot a 125 grain 3 blade VPA and that coupled with the 180 grain outsert gives me just over 300 grains up front and a total finished arrow weight of 580 grains and a FOC or 23.5%

I'm shooting this arrow through a 55 recurve.

I've done quite a bit of stumping and have yet to tear one up.

I'm real pleased with the arrows and will be buying more for a couple other bows when I get ready to build new ones for them.

The ones, that I reviewed are too light for me.
However, I learned that on the labels of the arrows there is a small line that Victory puts on each shaft to indicate nock alignment for most consistent sine and flight.
Super Curves.....
Covert Hunter Hex9h
Morrison Max 6 ILF
Mountain Muffler strings to keep them quiet
Shoot as much weight as you can with accuracy

My finished arrow weight with a 125 gr head is 580 gr.

I will pull all the details together and post tomm.

I'm shooting 400 spine through a 55# recurve.

I'm currently experimenting with and hunting with Victory VAP Elites. Mine are 350s. The business end is set up with Valkyrie Archery Stainless Centerpin Sleeves and their Centerpin Broadhead Adapter. With a 175 Abowyer Wapiti leading the way, I've got 350 grains up front. After wrap, glue, fletch and nock I'm just over 600 grains from a 55 pound deflex-reflex longbow.

I've killed one deer with these so far. Pass through. Broadhead impacted a rock and damaged the tip. Shaft and components came through fine. I have one arrow equipped with a Valkyrie Stumper Thumper (300 grain) which I use for practice to and from the stand. The Stumper Thumper arrow and my broadheads shoot exactly the same trajectory. Shot consistency is so far the best I've ever seen from a carbon.

Pricey to get all-in on a dozen of these completed and ready to hunt.

Camofire had the TKO on sale in the .003, and .006. Thought I'd buy a dozen just to try.
Shooting the 400's out of my Habu Death Adder longbow.
When you find a shaft that bare shafts perfectly, you stick with it. I draw 28", and cut them to 29.25"...bullet holes.
I like 200 up front, so I ordered the 50 gr outserts, and shoot 150 gr Centaur broadheads. The aluminum outserts will bend on hard impact...I suggest getting the stainless steel (although they weigh more) from Valkyrie archery.
You can really customize the hunting weight of these arrows...a pain for some who don't like all the accessories...
So far, I really like them...can't comment about hunting since the two deer I shot at this year, both jumped the string.

Just to add that I don't claim any credit for coming up with the shafts and components I mentioned above. A friend and hunting partner was the brains behind this for me. I shot his arrows and saw how perfectly they flew. All I did was basically duplicate his major components and then build the arrows to my preferences. I love seeing them come out of the bow absolutely straight and true with not even a wiggle.
